What I help with
Depression
You are not lazy. You are not broken. Something has shifted and it deserves proper support.
Depression makes everything harder. Getting up, concentrating, caring about things that used to matter. It is not laziness and it is not permanent, but it does need the right kind of support. My guides below explain what depression is, why it works the way it does, and what can genuinely help.
What depression actually does
Depression is not sadness, though sadness can be part of it. It is more like a dimmer switch being turned down on everything. Things that used to matter stop mattering. Getting through the day takes more than it should. The idea of things improving can feel abstract or even impossible.
That is not weakness. It is what depression does. And it is not permanent, even when it feels that way.
What I can help with
I work with people who are low, flat, or struggling to function — whether that has come on suddenly or has been there for a long time. Sometimes depression is connected to a specific event. Sometimes it is harder to pin down. Either way, having somewhere to talk about it honestly, without having to perform being okay, makes a difference.
We take things at a speed that feels manageable. There is no expectation that you will arrive with insight or leave with solutions. Sometimes just being heard is where it starts.
Starting when energy is low
Depression can make even arranging support feel like another task you cannot manage. You do not need to prepare, explain everything clearly or arrive ready to make changes. A session can begin with what the last few days have been like and move from there. The work is not a test of motivation.
Ways we can work
Depression counselling is available face to face in Consett, online across the UK, by telephone or as walk and talk sessions locally. Sessions are 50 minutes and current charges are shown on the Fees page.
